We got married in July 1991 and it was very happy day for me. Two weeks after our marriage, I discovered that my wife wasn’t so comfortable whenever she was around me but I thought she was just adjusting to the new reality of being my wife. This behaviour continued for another 4 weeks so I got worried. I called her to have a discussion and she said nothing was wrong and that everything is fine.

A week after that time, I got more worried and went to her parent to discuss the matter. Her parents live in Abeokuta just like we also do at that time but our houses are not so close to each other. Her mother followed me home that Sunday evening because she was worried.

When my mother in-law and I arrived at our house, my wife was surprised and they both went into the room to talk. After about 20mins, they came out of the room and her mummy said she has to start heading home to make food for her husband. She assured me that my wife will sort things out with me after she leaves.

To my greatest surprise, my wife sat me down and apologized for how she had treated me in the last few weeks. She said she doesnt know how to tell me that the ODOUR that always comes from my ARMPIT is too terrible for her to bear. She said that every time we are in the same space, after a few minutes, the odour keeps irritating her. When we are making love in the bedroom, when we are going to church, when we are in the taxi, just everywhere we go.

I felt really embarrassed because I do my best to stay hygienic but I guess being hygienic doesn't stop with only bathing and rubbing cream on your body and using perfumes.

Since that year 1991, I have been trying different perfume and deodorants. I later found out that even if I use a good perfume, the odour from my armpit is so strong that it overpowers the scent of the perfume that I used.
